After the horror of the attack on the World Trade Centre, U.S. president George Bush has called for a world wide effort to stamp out terrorism. In whole hearted support for such a goal, we, the undersigned acknowledge:
Terrorism is widespread in the world today and has been highlighted by the suicide plane crashes in America. Similar smaller suicide attacks have been occurring in Israel and elsewhere. But certain attacks by governments can only be called terrorist also. This includes the slaughter of hundreds of Palestinians (including children) by Israel in recent times. Similarly the British and U.S. governments are guilty of terrorism by the almost daily bombing of Iraq for over ten years, and the even more deadly sanctions which have resulted in the deaths of several hundred thousand Iraqi children.
We also hold accountable those who encourage or protect acts of terrorism, as the Afghan Taliban have been accused of doing. But we also condemn Australia's support of the terrorism against the Iraqi people, as well as our Prime Minister's offer of total support for possible revenge terrorism by the U.S. government after the Twin Towers and Pentagon attacks. The Australian government must condemn the potential for further terrorism against innocent civilians.
We advocate the use of non-violent means to fight terrorism, as we know the use of violence leaves us open to becoming terrorists ourselves.
