The Lamps Re-lit

We've been a long while wandering in the badlands,
God knows the night's been black and deadly cold;
So many years of loss and disillusion,
So many of us merely growing old….

So nearly did we let our dreaming falter,
Too easily were we shifted from our course -
Now we wake and wonder how it happened,
Rediscover purpose at its source.

Here's to mending every promise broken;
Here's to doing the things been left undone;
Here's to all the people who have woken -
So good to share the dawning of the sun;
So good to share the dawning of the sun!

For light was always shining from the hilltop,
We just imagined it had gone away;
No more will dark contagion reign around us,
We'll light the lamps anew at end of day.

Reveal the ways democracy has stumbled,
Reach roads on which we'll build it up again,
Walk together, seeking strength and vision,
To find ourselves, true women and true men….

Chorus

Now friends, I make this simple resolution -
That no more will I let my lookout fade,
Until we gain the summit of each mountain
Celebrate the journey that we've made.

A journey which is never really over -
We know there's always travelling to be done;
By transforming all our dreaming into action
We will value every battle fought and won…

Chorus
